MEETINGS IN CITIES

Ljubljana

The capital of Slovenia is also the centre of Slovenian life in every sense. It is renowned for stunning architecture, its unique atmosphere, and an amazingly diverse package of culture, entertainment and nightlife.

The largest cultural and congress centre in Slovenia is Cankarjev dom in central Ljubljana, which comprises 20 halls, with a maximum plenary seating capacity of 2,000. Cankarjev dom also employs a full-time PCO agency and has a long history of hosting successful international events. It is a member of ICCA, IAPCO and AIPC. The Grand Hotel Union is a beautiful Art Nouveau building in a prestigious location in the very heart of Ljubljana. Its facilities include 20 halls, the largest of which can accommodate up to 850 delegates.

Other fine meeting venues are the five-star Lev Hotel and the two newly opened hotels, the designer Mons Hotel, boasting a green and quiet location, and the high-tech Domina Grand Media Hotel, one of the world's most modern hotels. Successful meetings may also be held at some other hotels, as well as university halls, scientific and economic institutions. Ljubljana has fine restaurants in abundance, and other venues are available for special functions, such as the National Gallery, the courtyard of the Križanke theatre, which is an old monastery, Ljubljana Castle, and the City, National and Railway Museums.

Every conference venue in this warm and friendly city takes pride in its efficient service, and PCO's and DMC's are on hand to ensure the smooth running of any event. The congress department of the Ljubljana Tourist Board is a highly professional and objective source of information on the venues and services available.

Maribor

Maribor is Slovenia's second largest city and has a university and a thriving cultural scene. Its ancient heart is the Lent district on the Drava river, upon which you may enjoy the view from a leisurely barge trip. Maribor is also at the c entre of the vineyard area of eastern Slovenia, and a day spent on one of the many wine routes or an afternoon at a wine cellar is a popular attraction of the region.

The Terme Maribor group includes the fashionable five-star Habakuk hotel at the foot of the Pohorje Plateau. The hotel boasts a modern conference centre with a maximum capacity of 520 delegates in its main hall, and guests may unwind in its unique wellness centre and thermal pools. Pohorje is a forested plateau perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities all year round.

Meetings in other cities and towns

Slovenia has many smaller towns which offer a wide range of meeting venues in attractive locations. Nova Gorica is at the heart of central Primorska, a region of vineyards, forests and fast-flowing rivers. The town attracts gamblers from all over Europe with its casinos, entertainment programmes and the many nearby attractions. Velenje is dominated by the beautifully renovated Velenje Castle which houses the town museum. It is also a popular base for exploring the region around it, including the stunning Savinjska and Logarska valleys with the many possibilities for outdoor pursuits. The Paka Hotel in Velenje provides various rooms and halls for business and other meetings.
