Slovenia - your host country

The republic of Slovenia is situated in central Europe, in the south of limestone Alps, where different regions and climates meet. With two million residents, it has only a third the population of Denmark and is half the size of Switzerland, but its unique geographical position and easy accessibility make it a natural gateway between the rest of Europe, the Adriatic and the Balkan Peninsula. Particularly for the reason of its position many battles in the history took place here. This is a land of friendly people with magnificent scenery of crystal-clear mountain streams, rivers and lakes, lush green forests, wine growing districts, snow covered peaks, with thermal and mineral water springs and spas, and a large number of plants and even animal species endemic to this part of Europe only.

Ljubljana - your host city

Ljubljana’s geographical position has governed its colourful past. Through the history, a brisk migration of nations flowed through the Ljubljana gateway. During the Roman hegemony the town was called Emona. Ljubljana is first mentioned in written sources from 1144, its historical rise beginning into the 13th century when it became the Capital of the Province of Carniola. Ljubljana had an important role in Napoleonic times, even being the Capital of the entire Illyrian province between 1809 and 1813.

Ljubljana is today the capital city of the independent state of Slovenia, the heart of the political, economic, cultural and scientific life of the Slovene nation. Numerous churches, theatres, museums, galleries, the castle, which is about a thousand years old, as well as excellent restaurants with traditional food, give Ljubljana a reputation of being a modern town and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
