Dear friends and colleagues,
The main objectives of the Mediterranean League against Thromboembolic Diseases are scientific and
educational aspects of thromboembolic diseases. Since 1969, well recognized international congresses on
thrombosis have been organized every two years under the auspices of the Mediterranean League. So, the
forthcoming congress in Ljubljana will be the 18th in the row. It is my privilege to be able to invite you to this
congress in Ljubljana, which will take place in Cankarjev dom from June 20 – 24, 2004.
Ljubljana has been a host of the International Congress on Thrombosis already in 1990. Since then, huge
changes have happened to this country, being now Republic of Slovenia, which will be, just before the
forthcoming congress in 2004, joining the European Union. From 1990 significant changes have been
observed also in the field of thrombsis. In this period of 14 years new proteins, involved in hemostasis have
been discovered, we understand better the development of thrombosis, laboratory tests can help with its
diagnosis, and new drugs to treat thromboembolism are on horizont.
Take the challenge, come to Ljubljana in 2004 and enjoy the luxurious combination of a small town and a
state capital. The congress centre Cankarjev dom is conveniently situated in the centre of the town, which will
make it easy for you to discover on walking distance all the beautiful things Ljubljana has to offer. Its optimism,
its touristic attractions, its culture and at last but not at least its people are all waiting for you to be discovered.
