WHERE IS SLOVENIA?

VISA REQUIREMENTS
Most foreigners need a valid passport for entry into Slovenia. If in doubt
about the entry requirements, please consult the Conference Secretariat or
the local Slovenian Embassy or Consulate. A letter of Invitation or some
other document may be obtained from the Conference Secretariat upon
request.
CURRENCY
The Slovene currency is SIT (Slovene Tolar). 1 EUR is approximately
equivalent to 240 SIT. Unlimited amounts of foreign currency in cash,
cheques etc. may be brought into the country and need not be declared on
entry.
Foreign currency may be exchanged at banks, exchange offices, travel
agencies, hotels, the airport, and railway stations. Automatic exchange
machines, providing a 24-hour service, are located outside the main bank in
the city centre.
ELECTRICITY
Voltage: 220 V, 50 Hz. Sockets take 2 square-pin plugs. Appliances designed
to operate on 110/120 V need a voltage converter and plug adapter.
LOCAL TIME
European summer time.
CLIMATE
The Conference will take place in the Mediterranean region of Slovenia. In
May the temperatures are expected to range from 18 degree Celsius during
night up to 28 degree Celsius during the day. The temperature of the sea
should be around 23 degree Celsius, warm enough for swimming.
CREDIT CARDS
All major credit cards, such as Mastercard-Eurocard, Visa, American Express
etc., are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops.
TAXI
A taxi service is available day and night.
SHOPPING
Opening hours from 09.00 to 13.00 and from 16.00 to 20.00. Some shops
are open continually from 09.00 to 19.00. Most shops are closed on
Saturdays after 13.00 and on Sundays.
RESTAURANTS
There is a good choice of restaurants offering national and international
dishes (from self-service to a la cart menu, pizzerias, snack bars and those
catering for vegetarians) within the Bernardin hotels.
TRANSPORTATION BY CITY BUSES
Public bus services are frequent. Bus tokens may be bought at most
newspaper kiosks.
