Dear friends and colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the 20th International Liquid Crystal Conference in 2004 will be held in Ljubljana at Cankarjev dom Cultural and Congress Centre from the 4 July to 9 July 2004. The meeting will be held under the auspices of the International Liquid Crystal Society and is being organised by the Liquid Crystal Community at Jožef Stefan Institute and University of Ljubljana, with the co-sponsorship of the Society of Mathematicians, Physicists, and Astronomers of Slovenia and supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia and EU Commission under the ALCANDO project.

History of ILCC Conferences
The International Liquid Crystal Conferences began in 1965 at Kent State University, Ohio, under the chairmanship of the late Glenn H. Brown, to whom the liquid crystal community is greatly indebted for the advancement of the subject since the early days. Due to his great influence in the field, the conferences of 1968, 1972, 1976, and 1996 were also held in Kent, and the meetings have become a regular biennial events organised under the auspices of the International Liquid Crystal Society:

From the 90 or so delegates at the 1965 meeting attendances have reached close to 900, and the conferences represent the main international forum for presentation and discussion of new results in the multifaceted subject of liquid crystals.
